VISIT TO YUNGUILLA 1 Mar 2018
After an informative trip to Yunguilla, we collaborated with a new sense of determination and understanding of what can happen when we come together for a common goal.
We now have a list of ideal meals offered to our visitors, which you can see here.
And we had a long discussion over increasing the price to allow a small allowance for making purchases to improve the quality of the program.
For now the ladies are working 3 days a week in the afternoon to get the old store up and running.
And last but certainly not least, we have a logo now!
OLD FRIENDS 15 Feb 2018
Everyone was very excited to hear that we had heard from a volunteer that we worked with nearly 10 years ago! She even provided us with some amazing pictures!
We talked about our plan for publicizing our group. We hope to work with at least one Spanish School to bring in some guests for a once in a lifetime experience. We worked through ideas for our logo and put together a WhatsApp group.
We currently have space for 6 guests with a potential to have space for 12 in the near future and even more soon. We divided up into 3 groups to address menus, description of accommodation, and marketing.
GETTING ESTABLISHED 1 Feb 2018
After our administrator started her year off with 2 weeks working at a zoo, 1 week escorting a friend around Ecuador, and 1 week trying to get her Visa extended, we are back on track. Our first meeting addressed the difficulties of contact here in the rainforest. Because we're used to living so close that our neighbor can just come over whenever they want to say hello, we aren't attached to our phones. So contact with the outside world is up to us, this can be nice, but for Las Colibries to thrive we need to have good communication.
We also discussed transportation. It's $5 each way to get to Marianitas from Nanegalito.
Furthermore we're looking forward to hosting students looking to work on their Spanish here as homestay guests.
And last, but definitely not least, we are planning a trip to Yungilla...stay tuned.
STARTING FRESH FOR 2018 5 Jan 2018
The program has taken a 6 year hiatus, but we're ready to start back up.
We had our first group meeting 24 December 2017 and look forward to hosting some volunteers again soon!
