Where?
Santa Marianitas is a small town located 2 hours West of Quito with a population of two hundred people.
A one hour walk or 15 minute ride will bring you to Maquipucuna Reserve.
Another 2-3 hours walking and you'll find yourself in Santa Lucia.
It is located in the cloud rainforest of the Choco Andes:
"Snaking its way from Panama, through Colombia and down to Northern Ecuador, the Chocó is one of the last coastal tropical rainforests on Earth. The Chocoan Rainforests still hide thousands of undiscovered plants." - WWF
What?
We are focusing on the creation of sustainable jewelry to sell to visitors as a way to make a living sustainably using artesenal skills.
Why?
In our community, there aren't many businesses where we can find work, especially as women. This program will help us to support our families and send our children to school. By doing this in a sustainable way, we can contribute to the protection of our rainforest. Our ultimate goal is to open up an eco-friendly hotel.
